Recall Issued for Wal-Mart My Sweet Baby Dolls Due to Risk of Burns, Blisters
Baby dolls sold exclusively at Wal-Mart are being recalled due to a potential burn hazard for children caused by the doll overheating.
Approximately 174,000 baby dolls sold exclusively at Wal-Mart have been recalled, following reports suggesting that the dolls’ circuit boards may overheat, putting children at risk for serious burn and blister injuries. The Wal-Mart doll recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on March 25, and affects the My Sweet Love / My Sweet Baby Cuddle Care Baby Dolls. According to the CPSC, at least 12 cases have been reported in which the dolls overheated, resulting in at least two incidents where children suffered blisters and burns on the hand and thumb. If you believe your child has been injured by a potentially dangerous children’s product, like Wal-Mart’s My Sweet Baby Dolls, contact a product liability lawyer today for legal help.
Doll’s Circuit Board May Overheat
The My Sweet Love / My Sweet Baby Cuddle Care Baby Dolls affected by the CPSC recall are dressed in a pink floral outfit with a matching knit hat, and the package includes a toy medical check-up kit consisting of a feeding spoon, stethoscope, syringe and thermometer. The doll is designed to be “treated” with the toy medical kit and features an electrical system that allows the doll to babble, cough and its cheeks to turn red when it is sick. Unfortunately, according to the Wal-Mart doll recall, the circuit board in the doll’s chest may overheat, causing the surface of the doll to become hot and posing a burn hazard for children.
Baby Dolls Affected by Product Recall
The recalled baby dolls were manufactured in China under Tak Ngai Electronic Toys Co. LTD, were imported by Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide and online at walmart.com, from August 2012 to March 2014, for about $20. The packaging of the recalled dolls has “My Sweet Baby” printed on the front of the clear plastic and cardboard packaging, and a label sewn into the bottom of the doll that features the recalled UPC code 6-04576-16800-5 and date code beginning with “WM.” The dolls affected by the product recall can be returned to any Wal-Mart store for a full refund.
