Transvaginal Mesh Settlement

Leading Justice Seal

Endo Agrees to Settle AMS Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits for $830 Million

Endo Health Solutions will resolve approximately 20,000 surgical mesh claims with a $830 million settlement agreement.

Medical device maker Endo Health Solutions has agreed to pay $830 million to resolve the majority of the transvaginal mesh lawsuits filed against its American Medical Systems subsidiary, an agreement made just one day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced its decision to reclassify all surgical mesh products as high-risk medical devices. If the FDA proposal is finalized, makers of the controversial vaginal mesh devices, which have been linked to tens of thousands of reports of women suffering severe and debilitating injuries, would be required to go through a more stringent approval process before putting their implants on the market. If you have suffered injuries you believe were caused by a defective vaginal mesh device, contact a reputable surgical mesh lawyer today to discuss your compensation options.

Possible Side Effects of Surgical Mesh

Also known as bladder slings and surgical mesh, transvaginal mesh devices have been sold by a variety of manufacturing companies over the past ten years, and are designed to be surgically implanted in women to help treat conditions like pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Despite claims by surgical mesh manufacturers that the products are safe and effective for these uses, serious concerns have been raised about vaginal mesh implants in recent years, as women throughout the country have reported suffering serious complications when their mesh device eroded into the vagina, disintegrated, or became entangled in other organs, causing infections and resulting in debilitating injuries.

Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits

There are currently about 22,000 AMS surgical mesh lawsuits pending in courts throughout the United States, and all of the complaints involve similar allegations that the transvaginal mesh device is dangerous, defective, and carries an unreasonable risk of serious injury for women. The majority of the complaints involved in the AMS mesh litigation are pending in the federal court system, where all cases have been centralized before U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin in the Southern District of West Virginia, as part of a multidistrict litigation (MDL). Judge Goodwin is also presiding over a number of other surgical mesh MDLs, involving product liability lawsuits brought against mesh manufacturers like C.R. Bard, Boston Scientific, Ethicon, Coloplast, Cook Medical and Neomedic.
